Renault's two test drivers Jack Aitken and Artem Markelov are set to jump into the cockpit of the R.S. 18 this week as they will test tyres for Formula 1's official supplier, Pirelli.
Pirelli has been allocated 25 days of testing throughout the 2018 campaign, and it has been using a variety of different teams and circuits to get their mileage in. The tests aid the Italian marque's development and provides useful data for future specifications.
Both Aitken and Markelov have driven the R.S 18 this year, with Markelov making his free practice debut at his home in Russia a couple of weeks ago with the Enstone squad.
Both drivers have never driven around the Suzuka Ccircuit, which provides a tough challenge even for the most experienced of drivers. Both drivers will have a short period to obtain the optimum set-up while also learning the track.
The team will not know which tyre it is testing, and the data gathered is shared between the teams to ensure no single squad takes an unfair advantage. The test will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
