Lewis Hamilton failed to wrap up the title in Austin last weekend at the US Grand Prix, crossing the line in third place behind Max Verstappen in second and Kimi Raikkonen who won his first race since 2013.
However, the Briton will be aiming to wrap up the battle this weekend and become the third driver in F1 history to win five titles after Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton currently heads his nearest challenger Sebastian Vettel by 70 points with 75 still available over the final three races. Hamilton needs to be 50 points ahead at the end of the race in Mexico City in order to wrap up the title with two rounds to spare.
Vettel has to outscore Hamilton by 21 points if he wants to take the title fight to Brazil in two weeks' time. This means that he must take the win and Hamilton must finish outside the top seven. However, if Vettel is second or lower in Mexico, Hamilton will clinch the title, regardless of where Hamilton crosses the line.
Speaking ahead of the race, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said: "The weather forecast predicts conditions similar to those we had in Austin which might throw everyone another curveball by limiting dry running. We know that it is not going to be an easy race, but everyone in the team is focused, motivated and determined to keep the pressure on until the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi."
