Sebastian Buemi will remain with the Red Bull family for a 12th successive season, continuing in his role as a reserve. The Swiss driver joined Red Bull in 2008 as a test driver and spent three years driving for Toro Rosso. However, he failed to convince the senior team and left F1 after the 2011 season.
After leaving F1, Buemi signed a contract with Toyota to race with it in the World Endurance Championship. He became the series' champion alongside Anthony Davidson and Nicolas Lapierre in 2014 and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in 2018.
Buemi has also taken up a prominent role in Formula E, racing in the category since its maiden season in 2014/15. After finishing second in the opening ear, Buemi won the championship a year later with Renault e.dams.
For the 2018/19 season, Nissan took over Renault, with Buemi finishing in sixth and eighth at the opening two rounds of the year. In late 2018, Buemi was rumoured to be in contention for an F1 return with ex-team Toro Rosso.
