It is believed that the Mercedes F1 team is building towards some 'interesting testing' for the second week of pre-season testing in Barcelona. On day two of the test, the team clocked a total of 163 laps between Lewis Hamilton (74 laps) and Valtteri Bottas (89 laps), who split duties as they did in Monday's opening test.
Neither driver managed to top the timesheets, a common occurrence for Mercedes in recent years.Charles Leclerc put Ferrari on top for the second day of the row. However, Mercedes' technical director James Allison was happy with the performance so far.
“The car was trouble-free all day and we added to the knowledge about the tyres and the car that we started to acquire yesterday,” Allison said. “This permits us to build a foundation for the second test where all the interesting running will take place."
Valtteri Bottas has also expressed his satisfaction with the W10, believing that the car even felt better on the second day than it did in the opening test. He also hinted at more to come from the team performance wise.
“We did a lot of laps today and again managed to complete our run plan,” Bottas commented. “We’re learning a lot about the W10 with each run and we’re building a better understanding of the set-up."
