Antonio Giovinazzi has ended the morning session from the second week of testing on top of the timesheets with a lap time of 1:18.589.
The Italian set the lap time late on in the session, displacing Pierre Gasly who set his fastest time early on. Gasly ended up in second place, ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
The Monegasque driver had a long wait in the garage and didn't set an optimum number of laps. It is believed that the team had to make detailed checks to its cooling system, which prevented it from running.
Lance Stroll was fourth for Racing Point, followed by the Haas of Kevin Magnussen. The Dane set the most laps of any driver in the morning, but was closely tailed by Hamilton and Hulkenberg in terms of lap count.
The two rookies of Russell and Albon were sixth and seventh respectively, ahead of Hamilton and Hulkenberg.
Lando Norris rounded out the timesheets for McLaren and caused the only red flag of the morning, stopping at Turn 3 just after the halfway point of the session.
