McLaren's Lando Norris has explained how his extensive use of social media allows fans to become closer to him and be able to see how he gets up to.

During his debut season in F1 in 2019, Norris became popular with fans thanks to his various posts and memes on his Twitter and Instagram pages.

Norris has also been praised with fans for his relationship with teammate Carlos Sainz, with praise for the pair also coming from McLaren bosses Zak Brown and Andreas Seidl.

Norris explained at the recent Autosport International Show, explained how he felt it was important to use social media to attract younger fans and give them more of an insight into F1 and its drivers.

“I’ve grown up within this, and I’ve always been on social media since I was a little kid, too early maybe for what I should have done," Norris said, as quoted by Crash.net.

“It’s part of my life, giving you guys and fans and whoever is at home a better behind-the-scenes, a better knowledge of what a Formula 1 driver does, how they act, what they get up to and so on.

“That’s just what I want to do, just enjoy it, and give people something that they don’t see with many other drivers.

Streaming on Twitch 'something no other driver does'

Norris touched also on his use of Twitch, a site dedicated for streaming of video games and players.

Norris is a very active user on Twitch, often streaming his use of his simulator at home, or playing games with Sainz and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.

“With streaming on Twitch and just people watching me at home playing on a simulator or playing games or whatever, no other driver does that," Norris added.

“So it’s just to show what I love doing, to give people a better insight of what I get up to, and I hope they like it.”
