Sergey Sirotkin: "The pace was incredible"

Sergey Sirotkin won the GP2 feature race after being forced to make a second pit stop due to a yellow flag violation.

The Russian made his mandatory pit stop during a Virtual Safety Car period and the stewards deemed the stop illegal, forcing his to make another. The ART driver managed to work his way back to the front after the stop however, to take his first win of the season.

"It looked like it was game over after we pitted under VSC," he said. "At this track the VSC display is well before the pit entrance, and when I passed it there was nothing on it, so we went in, and when I was coming in it came on."

"We did our pit stop there but it wasn't counted as the mandatory pi tstop, but maybe it looks like a clever move because we didn't lose so many places on track and had fresh tyres, which was quite a lot quicker than everyone around," he continued. "We gained quite a lot of track time with that, and in the end we made another pit stop, more fresh tyres and we could make a massive push on the closing laps, and all the VSCs helped to save the tyres too.

"It was a great race, a great car, and as I say it was not easy and at once stage we thought it was all over, but kept pushing and the pace was incredible, and we were back!"
