Gateway Motorsports Park looks set to host an IndyCar race next year for the first time since 2003.
According to RACER, the track in Illinois will be added to next year's calendar, with rounds in Australia, Portland and Calgary also mooted.
The track hosted CART from 1997 to 200 and the Indy Racing League from 2001 to 2003 but poor attendance saw the race replaced by a round of the NASCAR truck series a year later.
By 2010 the track was closed down, only to reopen two years later to host NHRA drag racing.
leased by ex-racing driver Curtis Francois, NASCAR trucks and sprint car racing has returned to the track.
IndyCar driver and team owner Ed Carpenter tested a the rejuvenated facility in 2015 and it was approved by IndyCar as an official test track for this season.
Should the race go ahead, it will take place in August and will be one of six ovals in the IndyCar calendar.
