Juan Pablo Montoya going all out for the win in season finale

Juan Pablo Montoya is aiming to end his dismal 2016 IndyCar series campaign by winning the season finale at Sonoma on Sunday.

Montoya led the championship throughout the season last year, ultimately missing out on the crown to Scott Dixon at the final round.

This year he again started off with a win in St. Petersburg, looking as if he may be able to mount a title challenge but ultimately he has ended up being the only Penske driver to not figure in the championship battle which is currently headed by Simon Pagenaud.

"I'm just going for a win and that's it," Montoya told RACER. "The championship is over for me, but it's good in a way because it's won by Penske already. It's Simon or it's Will, one or the other. For myself, it's only about winning because that's all we have left."

Despite his three team mates all being in the top four of the championship, Montoya won't be making life easy for them at Sonoma.

"We had a really good test, I'm really happy with my car, we want to win, and I think it's up to [Pagenaud and Power] to figure out the championship," he said. "We'll go there and race, and that's it."

"You go there, do your job, hopefully you can close the year with a good race," he added. "We've run good every week, we've made some mistakes as a team, and we've gotta finish this race stronger than we've been running. That's it. Everything else is trying to make something out of nothing."
