Alex Zanardi has won his third Paralympic gold medal.
On the eve of the15 year anniversary of the tragic accident during a Champ Car race at Lausitzring that caused him to lose both of his legs, the Italian added to his Handcycling road race and time trial golds from London four years ago.
The 49-year-old was fastest in the H5 Time Trial event, beating Australian Stuart Tripp by 2.74 seconds having only been third at the halfway point.
Zanardi has two more opportunities to add to his medal haul this week when he competes in the H5 road race and H2-5 mixed team relay.
Congratulations, @lxznr #Gold for #TeamItalia on #CyclingRoad #Paralympics https://t.co/pskH3AI8o3
