Conor Daly has often listened to his father, Derek, describe what it's like to compete in the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. The buzz of hundreds of thousands of spectators on Race Day. The mix of excitement and reverence of the pre-race ceremonies. The adrenaline of the charge to the green flag.
For most of his 21 years, Daly has watched the 'Greatest Spectacle in Racing' play out in front of him while seated in the grandstands, harboring a passion to one day drive in -- and win -- the historic event.
He'll have a much better view of the 97th Running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 26 and realize one of his dreams as A.J. Foyt Racing announced that Daly will drive the
Honda-powered No. 41 ABC Supply car at the Speedway as a teammate to
Takuma Sato in the No. 14 ABC Supply Co. car.
"I almost can't describe what it means to have the opportunity to race in the Indianapolis 500," said Daly, of nearby Noblesville, Ind. "I am so thankful that A.J. and (team director) Larry (Foyt) have given me my first shot at the greatest race in the world. I know this will sound cheesy but I've never been happier in my life; this race means so much to me."
